Anna McMichael (violin)
Daniel de Borah (piano)

Transcriptions have long been a popular genre. Composers rework their own compositions and often those of others, whether as tribute or appropriation. The origin of a transformed piece may be the music for a song, a different instrument, or even from a ballet, opera or orchestral suite. A reworked piece may emerge from a composer’s reimagining of an earlier work. It also may be pragmatically prompted by reputational or financial pressures to produce new work for the paying public. Transforming favourite pieces has long been a musical pastime, with the reworked piece intended for the salon or for a new lease of life on the concert stage.

The recreated pieces selected for violin and piano for this CD were both written and arranged for this combination by Brahms, Schumann, Liszt and Stravinsky.

This lovely program was devised by violinist Anna McMichael with pianist Daniel de Borah, two of Australia's most accomplished musicians. They play this music with virtuosity and style. There's not much more you could ask for!
