Tall Poppies is proud to present the first recording of David Pereira’s compositions for cello. Written over 20 years, these works show a clear understanding of the instrument (unsurprisingly) and often show a mischievous side that is rare in classical music these days. Responding to his surroundings in Canberra, his children and grand-children, and to the art of fellow Canberra painter Micky Allen, David’s music takes us on surprising journeys.
It is marvellous that a sought-after teacher is promoting a gifted protégé (Lianah is extraordinary!) and Canberra pianist Teddy Neeman has been advising with the piano writing as well as performing these works.
The Bach suite arrangements are unusual, but make a terrific set of pieces for cello teachers to play with their students.
Many thanks to ANU for providing the Larry Sitsky Recital Room in which to record this music.
And many thanks to Kangaroo Valley-based artist Githe Pilbrow for her interpretation of Klimt’s Pear Tree for our cover.
