Giuseppe Clemente Dall'Abaco: Cello Sonatas
Elinor Frey (baroque cello)
With Mauro Valli, Federica Bianchi, Giangiacomo Pinardi
***
Giuseppe Clemente Dall'Abaco (1710-1805) was the son of the violinist and composer Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco and a virtuoso on the violoncello who was highly regarded throughout Europe. His cello sonatas, recorded here for the first time, impress not only with their technical brilliance, but also with their exceptionally melodious slow movements, in which the natural beauty of the cello sound is shown to its best effect.
