Shifting Landscapes
Kathryn Moorhead (flute)
with Anne Norman (shakuhachi, track 4)
Shifting Landscapes is a compelling new album from Australian flautist Kathryn Moorhead, charting the evolving sound world of the flute through contemporary works that extend the instrument beyond its traditional boundaries.
Drawing together pieces shaped by breath, timbre, and texture, the album invites listeners into a sonic journey where shifting colours, extended techniques, and lyrical expression meet.
Featuring works for solo flute, piccolo, and alto flute by composers Paolo Perezzani, Andrew Ford and Brian Ferneyhough, the album also includes Nicole Chamberlain’s playful work for piccolo and hand-cranked music box, Elizabeth Brown’s meditative duet for flute and shakuhachi, and a hauntingly beautiful piece for piccolo and electronics by Australian composer Damian Barbeler.
Shifting Landscapes reflects Kathryn’s commitment to adventurous programming, artistic curiosity, and expressive storytelling.
